ELGIN City have cancelled training for a week as 10 players have been forced into self-isolation due to positive Covid-19 tests.

Players have been taking lateral flow tests routinely, up to three times a week, with a number coming back positive this week.

While only a couple of tests are positive, more players are isolating due to being close contacts of a case.

All players are set to receive PCR tests before it is decided who will continue to isolate.

Training has been suspended until next Thursday as a precautionary measure, while friendlies against Aberfeldy and Nairn County have been cancelled.

Chairman Graham Tatters said: "Everyone did testing, some were positive, some were negative but weren't sure so have gone for a PCR test.

"We have 10 people affected in total.

"We are just waiting for the dust to settle so took the precautionary decision to stop everything until next Thursday.

"We don't want to be taking this round the country. It's not just Elgin-based boys who are involved with this."

Tatters admitted he is frustrated by the timing of the cases and feels sorry for manager Gavin Price.

City's League Cup campaign is set to get under way against Arbroath at Borough Briggs on Saturday, July 10 – with this set to impact pre-season preparations significantly.

He added: "The timing is terrible. We will manage, but it's frustrating and I feel for the manager.

"You are trying to put a squad together, get games sorted, bring extra people in... and now we can't do that and the season is creeping up on us.

"Everywhere Gavin turns at the moment he is being blocked.

"The boys will continue to work from home and try to maintain fitness."
