CANCER charity CLAN is marking its 10th anniversary in Moray with ten different fundraising events – including walking barefoot over Lego.

Scores of local people have received help and support over the past decade since the charity opened its centre on Elgin High Street.

The charity, which now also has a presence in both Forres and Lossiemouth, kicked off its anniversary celebrations last month.

Back in September, 20 classic car and motorcycles toured the north east, raising more than £14,000.

A further £3000 was added to that total this past Saturday when 140 people attended a quiz night at the Ex-Serviceman’s Club in Elgin.

For the next of its ten fundraising events the charity has come up with an unusual idea involving Lego.

Its 'Brickwalk Challenge' of Elgin Town Hall in January will see folk challenged to take off their shoes and socks then walk over thousands of plastic pieces scattered on the floor.

Julie Ferguson, CLAN’s area co-ordinator said: "We provide physical and emotional support to people of all ages in Moray who have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

"We’d like to thank everyone who has shown us support so far by taking part in either the CLAN Cavalcade rally or our birthday quiz.

"We are also very excited to unveil a new events programme to celebrate the past ten years.

"Our upcoming Brickwalk Challenge promises to be another popular event.

"We look forward to people of all ages joining us at Elgin Town Hall in January for what we are sure will be a great day out for all the family."

Amongst the other planned events are a golf day and a ceilidh dinner dance. Details are due to be released shortly.

The anniversary celebrations are being supported by Cathedral Windows, with the local business also coordinating a number of events in honour of CLAN throughout the year.

Julie Fraser, director at Cathedral Windows, said: "We have the great privilege of being CLAN’s neighbours on Elgin High. CLAN is all about community which is a value deeply embedded in our own ethos.

"We take immense pride in our ongoing support for CLAN and are committed to redoubling our efforts as we unite in celebration of their fantastic anniversary."

CLAN’s Elgin centre was officially opened by Princess Anne in 2013 following the charity being established in Aberdeen in 1983.

Open from 10am-4pm, Monday to Thursday, with support available either on a drop-in basis or by appointment, it offers a listening and support service for anyone impacted by a cancer diagnosis, as well as NHS-aligned complementary therapies.

A dedicated children and families team are also on hand to help young people and their loved ones.

Its representatives are at the medical centre in Lossiemouth every Thursday, and at the Masonic Lodge in Forres on every other Friday.

The Lego Brickwall Challenge is going to take place from noon-2pm on Sunday, January 21, at Elgin Town Hall.

Refreshments and face painting will also be available.
