A RECENT Moray police recruit who has been brightening lockdown days over the past fortnight is to be posted to other duties for a while.

Chase the dog mascot has been roving the Moray patch on a mission to raise smiles and ensure coronavirus social distancing rules are being observed.

He will now be taking a little break from the beat. His "handler", community policing warden Jamie Dey, is urging members of the public to put forward any suggestions or ideas as to how else the police can help at this time.

Chase thanked the people of Moray for their support and appreciation. He said: "What a fun last week or so I have had trying to see as many little kiddos as possible. I must say though, some of the adults were happier to see Chase than the kids.

"We have been blown away by the amount of support shown by all in Moray. It is truly appreciated.

"I am sorry if I haven't made it to your area but it wasn't for the lack of trying to cover as many areas as possible.

"Please everyone, keep safe and make one final push to do the best you all can to abide by the rules at the moment. Stay safe and thank you."
