TWO new bands have been added to the line-up for the MacMoray Family Easter Festival – providing something for lovers of 1960s music.

The Animals, famous for their 1964 classic House of the Rising Sun, will be joined by Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band at the all-day festival.

The Animals' appearance comes in place of their delayed Lossiemouth gig, which has been rescheduled several times from its original date of April 24, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ticket holders for The Animals gig in Lossiemouth will receive free entry to the MacMoray Easter Festival.

Festival organiser Andy Macdonald said: "This year will be The Animals' farewell so marking this occasion is extremely special and it will be a privilege to have some of these original legends on stage at the MacMoray Festival.

"Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band are the best live performance I’ve ever seen. I needed to bring them to MacMoray. Their energy and rhythm is second to none.

"Geno is a full-on cult hero and a legend of the 60s soul scene.

"He is electrifying on stage and his love of performing makes him an inspiration, a joy to witness, and one of the greatest frontmen from the latter half of the 20th century."

The current line-up for The Animals features two early members – John Steel and Mick Gallagher – alongside newer-arrivals in Danny Handley and Roberto Ruiz.

Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band have been back touring since 2005, having previously been active between 1965 and 1968.

The duo have joined groups such as Vengaboys, Toploader and Bad Manners at the show, which is due to take place at Elgin's Cooper Park on April 16, 2022, subject to the granting of a public entertainment license.

There will be an outdoor main stage, along with an indoor stage for traditional Scottish music.

For adults, there will be a large marquee and a bar, with entertainment for children including a bouncy castle and face painting.

  • Band announcements will appear in the print version of the Northern Scot on a Friday before anywhere else.
