Covesea Lighhouse will not now open for guided tours at the start of next month.

.

The decision was made today by the Covesea Lighthouse Company Ltd.

This also applies to the Royal Navy and Royal Heritage Centre, which is nextdoor to the lighthouse and focuses on the history if the Lossiemouth Airfield.

Spokesman Bernard Anakin said: "We've made this decision with a great deal of regret, but we feel that to do otherwise would be irresponsible.

"Although both attractions are free, many visitors decide they want to make a donation after they have looked round.

"There are maintenance which that always need to be met, so we'll miss that cash.

"However, as I said, we haven't much choice.

"Let's just all hope this current situation doesn't last too long."
