Conservative group leader on Moray Council, Tim Eagle, has welcomed SNP plans to reinstate grass cutting and insists they had been campaigning for the move for months.

Responding to SNP leader Graham Leadbitter's confirmation that grass cutting is set to be restored, Cllr Eagle said: “I am very pleased that the administration has finally seen sense and, at least, is proposing to restore some of the grass-cutting that was cut last year.

"It should never have happened in the first place and we have been campaigning for months to reverse the policy."

He called on the SNP to reverse the proposal to close the last remaining public toilets.

"So far as the public toilets are concerned, it is imperative that our last remaining public conveniences are kept open. We cannot expect communities to adopt them in all circumstances, given the other responsibilities that the council has handed over.

“We remain very concerned that they are still proposing to hike up council tax well above the current inflation level.

"This is really not fair for lower-income households which are struggling to meet ends meet. They will be asking themselves, why are we paying more for reduced services?

"Any other business that followed that model would rapidly find itself out of business.”

The special meeting of Moray Council to set the budget is due to start at 2pm today.
