Inverness Sheriff Court was told that police were informed that 42 year old Ross Geldart of St Drostans, had been drinking.

Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh said Geldart was intercepted on the journey in the early hours of November 28 last year and tested positive for alcohol.

He had been pulled over on the A82 at Lochend and his reading was 58mcgs of alcohol. The limit is 22mcgs.

Defence solicitor Clare Russell said: "The relationship is now over. He had been at his partner's house in Elgin, an argument ensued and he sought to remove himself to prevent it escalating."

Geldart was fined £420 and banned from driving for a year.

Sheriff David Harvie ruled him suitable for the drink driver's rehabilitation course which will earn Geldart a three month discount if he successfully completes it.
