Travel restrictions in and out of Moray may be soon re-imposed, it has just been announced.

Nicola Sturgeon has stated the situation within Moray – where the current infection rate is four times the Scotland-wide average – meant it was "highly probable" that the region would not follow the rest of the country out of level three restrictions this coming Monday.

The First Minister said a final decision would be taken at the end of this week, but no easing would take place unless there was a material change in circumstances.

She added: "Moray has been experiencing a high rate of infections.

"I would appeal to everyone living in Moray to follow all the public health instructions so we can get the area back on track as soon as possible.

"Moray will remain in level three for a period, although I hope it will be a relatively short one."

The rest of Scotland is set to move from level three to level two lockdown restrictions on Monday May 17 – the same day when restrictions will also be eased in England.

One possible exception to this is the islands will could move all the way down to level one.

Under the Scottish Government five-tier system the drop to level two will once again permit friends and family to meet indoors for the first time in eight months.

Gatherings of up to six people from no more than three households are set to be allowed.

Pubs and restaurants across the rest of the country will also be allowed to serve alcohol indoors from Monday onwards.

In addition, cinemas, theatres, music venues and bingo halls can reopen.
