PUPILS at Seafield Primary School in Elgin have been celebrating National Tree Week by planting some of their own hedgerows on the school's grounds.
All pupils at the school were involved, with trees being planted by pupils from P1 to P7 – with help from Moray College.
A Branching Out grant from The Tree Council, one of the United Kingdom’s leading tree charities, gave Seafield Primary School pupils the chance plant 700 native hedgerow trees, including Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Field Maple and Dog Rose.
Seafield Primary depute head Martin Collins said: "It's nice for the school to take part and full credit to the eco-committee, who persevered to get the grant. It's quite hard to get and we are delighted to be awarded the grant.
"We are very involved in eco matters in the school and we are trying to develop the school grounds.
"There are one or two pandemic silver linings and one is that we can focus on these things.
"It was good to get the kids out and about and it's nice to think that in 10 or 20 years there will be a nice hedge to look at."
National Tree Week runs from November 28 to December 6, with this year also being the year of the tree.
While restrictions have limited many community tree planting initiatives, schools are still open and recipients of Branching Out grants are doing their bit to reduce carbon emissions and improve their communities by planting trees.
