Tributes to Turriff football stalwart killed in A947 crash

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 62-year-old stalwart of Turriff United football club who died in a four vehicle crash last Friday.

He was killed following a crash on the A947 near Hattoncrook on Friday at A947.

Mr Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene. A 58-year-old man, a passenger of the VW Transporter, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. The 24-year male driver of the silver Ford Focus was also taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Mr Duncan's family said: "We are heartbroken that Web was tragically taken from us. He was a loving husband, devoted Dad, Granda, brother and friend. Web will be remembered for his selfless loving nature and will be sorely missed by all."

Road Policing Sergeant Alexander Bowser-Reilly said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Duncan at this difficult time.

"Our investigation into the crash continues and I would urge anybody who was driving on the A947 on Friday morning and may have dash-cam footage or witnessed the incident to contact police on 101, quoting incident 0596 of December 11."

Football clubs from across the north-east have paid tribute following the loss of Mr Duncan.

He had been involved with Turriff United for many years and the club lead the tributes: "Turriff United Football Club received the devastating news of the sudden passing of committee member Web Duncan.

"Web was a long standing committee member and most of the fantastic facilities you see before you when you visit the ground was thanks to Web and his skills as a builder, putting in countless hours in the evenings and weekends to make the ground everything it could be.

"Needless to say we as a club are absolutely heartbroken that such a committed and vital member of our 'squad' and a loyal friend is no longer with us. "

Mr Duncan had been instrumental in the development of the club's ground at the Haughs.

Turriff Thistle FC said: "Thistle send our condolences, love and thoughts to our co/manager and coach Kevin Duncan and Adele Duncan at this heartbreaking time.

"We are thinking of all the families on this sad day."

Local football podcasters Twoblokes Andamike added: "Turriff lost a legend yesterday our thoughts are with the families of all those involved."

Adrian Inglis for Aberchirder-based St Marnan's said:"The thoughts of all at St Marnans FC echo your words and send our sincere condolences at this very sad time."

While Fyvie FC said: "Everyone at Fyvie Football Club would like to send our deepest condolences to our friends at Turriff United Football Club, Turriff Thistle FC and the families concerned following the devastating passing of Web Duncan."

"Web was a long-standing committee member at Turriff United and a true football man who put many hours of work into his local club and he will be sorely missed by many in the local football community.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Webs family at this awful time."
