THE history, people and landscape of Speyside and Elgin will feature in a new TV series beginning tonight.

STV will air Hayman’s Way, a new series in which Scottish actor and director David Hayman makes a journey across the country to discover some of rural Scotland’s most beautiful, fascinating and surprising places.

Each of the six episodes will feature a different part of Scotland.

In the second episode next week, David will visit the Cairngorms, canoeing down the River Spey and searching for the oldest living thing in the British Isles. He will meet mountaineer and writer Cameron McInesh.

Speyside features in the third episode of the series. David will travel from Aviemore to Elgin, riding aboard a lovingly preserved steam engine. He will learn about Scalan, the secret religious school once tucked away in Glenlivet, and meets one Polish family who now call Scotland their home.

Other episodes feature Glencoe, Kilmartin, Lewis and Harris, and East Lothian.

The series will round off with a compilation programme.
