Two coronavirus-related deaths recorded in Moray

TWO coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Moray in the last week.

Both people who died tested positive for Covid-19 within the four weeks before their passing.

This news comes after 12 weeks without a death due to Covid-19 in Moray.

The number of people in the area to have died due to the virus since the outbreak began is now 42.

Of those 42, 32 have tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days, while 10 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

Meanwhile, 74 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray within the last seven days, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 2441.

This is a drop from the 91 cases confirmed in last Wednesday's update and the 144 confirmed the week prior.

A total of 401 people have tested negative for Covid-19 since July 28.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 23,112 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began.

That's an increase of 652 since last week's update.

Moray neighbourhood update

Thirteen different 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray confirmed at least three cases of coronavirus between July 26 and August 1.

The worst hit towns are Elgin with 25 cases, Lossiemouth with nine and Buckie with six.

Other areas with cases are: Cullen, Portknockie Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock (7), Burghead, Roseisle and Laich (5), South Speyside and the Cabrach (4), Fochabers, Aultmore, Clochan and Ordiquish (4), Keith and Fife Keith (3).

Scotland-wide update

Across Scotland in the last week, 36,375 people were newly-tested for Covid-19 with 7992 testing positive for the first time.

Since the outbreak began, 2,509,868 people in Scotland have been tested at least once, with 349,286 positive and 2,160,582 negative.

During the week ending August 1, 46 deaths were registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Scotland's death toll from coronavirus is 10,370. A total of 7965 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 58 people are in intensive care in relation to Covid-19, with 383 patients in hospital.

In total, 17,889 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5, 2020.
