A planning application has been approved to lay two-miles of underground electric cable in the Deskford area.

.

Moray Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead for the cable which will allow renewable energy to join the national grid.

The section forms part of a far longer line connecting the Moray West Offshore Wind Farm to a substation at Keith.

Chris Newman, who was representing the applicant, told members that the cable couldn't follow the originally preferred route because it was blocked by a water main.

One household objected to the application.

However, the councillors were told the proposed route was nearly 500ft from their property.

Mr Newman said: "There’s no intention to instal cable under their house. The cable will be laid outside their land."

The application, which was recommended for approval by officers, was unanimously agreed by the committee.
