TWO Moray residents have died due to Covid-19 within the last seven days, taking the area's death toll to 34 since the outbreak began.

Both residents who died this week tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days.

In total, 26 Moray residents have died after a positive coronavirus test, while eight have had Covid-19 mentioned on their death certificate.

In the same seven-day period, 54 people tested positive for the virus across the area – taking the total number of cases confirmed in Moray since March 2020 to 1201.

The 54 positive cases represent a reduction on the 72 confirmed in last week's, despite an increase in tests taken.

Since February 14, 439 people have tested negative for the virus in Moray – up on 375 last week.

However, Moray's infection rate (71 per 100k of population) remains higher than Highland (54) Aberdeenshire (37) and Aberdeen City (27).

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 13,385 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 208 on the 13,177 reported last week.

Once again, a large amount of Moray's cases are centered around Keith – where an asymptomatic testing site has now been set up to deal with high case numbers.

Keith and Fife Keith had 25 confirmed cases of the virus between February 15 and February 21.

In Elgin, at least 17 people tested positive for the virus between the same dates (New Elgin East 5; Bishopmill West and Newfield 4; Bishopmill East and Ladyhill 4; Elgin Cathedral to Ashgrove and Pinefield 4).

Four cases were confirmed in Lossiemouth (all in Lossiemouth East and Seatown) and four were confirmed in Buckie (all in Buckie West and Mains of Buckie).

Fewer than three cases were confirmed in Forres, while there were three in the Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock neighbourhood area.
