TWO patients were taken to hospital after a road traffic accident on the A96 between Inverness and Nairn earlier today.

One lane of the trunk road has now reopened after a collision near Newton of Petty, between Culloden and Tornagrain at around 11am prompted a full closure of the road.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.43am to attend a road traffic collision at Newton of Petty on the A96.

"We dispatched a resource to the scene and two patients were transported to Raigmore Hospital.”

Four fire engines were dispatched from Inverness, however a Scottish and Fire Rescue Service Spokesperson confirmed they have since returned from the scene and handed over to Police Scotland.

Traffic remains heavy on the road and motorists are being advised to seek alternative routes when travelling and are advised of likely delays on their journey.
