After the college's pandemic-era students belatedly received their honours yesterday, it was the turn of this year's graduates across two Friday sessions.

UHI principal David Patterson praised students for coming through a "scary and difficult" period.

Marius Puscas, who runs Planta Café on Batchen Street, was a guest speaker and urged new graduates to believe in themselves as they begin "the first day of a new adventure".

While it was a memorable day for all in attendance, it was particularly special for Level 6 Beauty and Aesthetics Therapy graduate Linzi Clark, who was named student of the year.

Linzi, from Buckie, returned to college in 2020, having studied midwifery as a teenager and worked as a midwife and in a care home for the last 11 years.

"I'm super proud, I've never won anything," she said.

"I love looking after people. I love being with people and I fancied a change. I was in the care home for six years and was a midwife for five, with lots of little jobs in between.

"Beauty is still looking after people, just glamorously!

"I really enjoyed the course. The lecturers were so helpful over the two years. I'd recommend it highly."

Linzi has already found work with Hair and Body Mechanics in Elgin, where she's a beauty therapist and skin care specialist.
