A KEITH man who downloaded images of children being sexually abused has been ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work.

Cameron Thomson (20) of Cameron Drive, Keith, was also placed under three years of social worker supervision and on the sex offender's register for the same period.

In addition, he has to participate in a sex offender's rehabilitation programme.

Thomson appeared for sentencing at Inverness Sheriff Court after a deferral for a background report which recommended a non-custodial disposial.

At an earlier hearing, he denied that he was sexually attracted to children after 401 images were found on his mobile phone. He told police he downloaded the images "out of curiosity".

Thomson had admitted possessing the images, 54 of which were the most graphic, involving girls aged between 10 and 15.

He also pleaded guilty to distributing three of the images.

Fiscal depute David Morton told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that, following an investigation by Police Scotland's National Child Abuse Unit, Thomson's home was raided and searched on October 30, 2020. His electronic devices including an iPhone were seized.
