SPEYSIDERS can hear an update on the impact of the "temporary" closure of Aberlour’s Fleming Hospital next month.

People in the area are being asked to speak up during a "big health and care conversation", at Speyside High School, on Wednesday, February 5, at 7pm.

Shockwaves were sent through communities served by the hospital over the decision, in November last year, to temporarily close the 15-bed hospital to in-patients due to "unsafe" pressures on staff and recruitment problems.

Health and Social Care Moray (HSCM) is hoping to engage the community in "exploring ways to support people to live well, stay well and age well" when it hosts its Big Conversation for Speyside.

The partnership will showcase health and care initiatives under way to enable people to live healthier lives for longer where they are supported at home or in a homely setting as far as possible.

Chief officer Pam Dudek said: "Good health and wellbeing begins at home and in communities. This is where most people would choose to remain with the right support.

"We want people to take charge of their own health and wellbeing and that of their families and communities. We want people to be able to draw on their own personal resources and those of their community – not only when they experience health and care challenges but to prevent problems happening.

"We know that people value their local services highly but to meet rising pressures we need to adapt how we do things.

"Our strategic plan, Moray Partners, relies on everyone getting involved and working together to generate different solutions.

"The Big Conversation is an opportunity to bring together people living and working in the locality to draw on their knowledge and experiences to work through some of the challenges."

Anyone unable to attend the event can share their views and ideas by emailing involvement@moray.gov.uk or writing to Speyside’s Big Health and Care Conversation, HSCM, 9C Southfield Drive, Elgin IV30 6GR.
