WITH a little more than a month to go, the organiser of the MacMoray Family Easter Festival has provided an update on the event.

The all-day festival – set to be headlined by The Boomtown Rats – is scheduled to take place at Cooper Park, in Elgin, on Saturday, April 16.

More than 6000 people have paid deposits for tickets, with festival organiser Andy Macdonald, from Lossiemouth, saying he hopes to receive the license for the event by March 18.

The hope is that he will then be able to begin selling the tickets between March 18 and March 20.

Mr Macdonald was speaking after a Moray Council Events Oversight Group meeting on Monday, February 28, to discuss plans surrounding layout, stewarding and traffic management.

If the event for some reason doesn't go ahead, Mr Macdonald ensured there would be a full refund of deposits.

He said: "I have been working extremely closely with Moray Council to bring the safest and best music festival possible to Cooper Park and we are now on the home stretch.

"Moray Council's steering group has put an extreme amount of time into the festival's plans and have provided great guidance from the start.

"It was great to discuss the festival in great detail and work on strategies to bring the best event to Elgin.

"I understand that the health and safety of staff and customers is the most the important factor in a successful event.

"An event of this scale hasn’t been done before in the area, so together we are making sure that there isn’t a box left unticked.

"This is such an exciting event and I believe it’s extremely important that we confirm all the necessary requirements and have everything in place.

"I’d like to assure all customers that if the event is cancelled, all that have paid deposits or purchased tickets will receive a full ticket and deposit refund.

"When tickets go on sale, all customers that have paid a deposit will be sent a unique link by email to pay the remaining balance of tickets, along with programme information including event times, schedule and parking."

There are hopes that the MacMoray Festival can become an annual event – which has led to slightly longer than expected delays.

Alongside The Boomtown Rats, acts such as Vengaboys, Toploader, S Club 7, The Animals and Dr Feelgood will be performing at the event.
