A public exhibition is being held at next week at Forres Town Hall regarding the updated plans for houses and student accommodation at Dallas Dhu.

The development, which includes up to 180 homes and 40 'bedspaces' for students is a partnership between Moray Council, the Altyre Estate and Grampian Housing Association.

Marc Macrae, who chairs Moray Council’s economic development committee, is encouraging anyone with an interest to attend.

Cllr Macrae (Fochabers/Lhanbryde, Conservative) said: "The previous engagement session held in summer 2023 was well attended and I’d encourage anyone locally with an interest in the development, including businesses and individuals looking to build, to head along to the town hall on January 24.

"Given the addition of student accommodation it’ll be worthwhile having a look at the updated designs and having a chat with the team."

The Dallas Dhu development is part of a wider attempt to build more affordable and 'carbon conscious' houses in Moray.

The £7.5m Housing Mix Delivery project, which is one of the elements of Moray’s Growth Deal, involves £5million from the Scottish Government, with the remainder coming from the council.

Craig Stirrat, CEO of Grampian Housing Association called the Dallas Dhu development an "ambitious and innovative project to create an inclusive and sustainable community for the people of Forres and Moray".

He added: "Access to affordable housing is at the heart of everyone’s wellbeing and therefore it is important that residents have to opportunity to consider and share their views on the housing proposals for Dallas Dhu to ensure we get it right."

Sir Alastair Gordon Cumming, from Altyre Estate, said: "We are delighted that the first phase of the Dallas Dhu housing development is progressing well and we look forward to working with our partners as we move to the delivery stage."

Robin Livingstone of Fraser/Livingstone Architects said: "The inclusion of bespoke student accommodation on the site provides a fantastic opportunity to support the delivery of new homes, reinforcing the creation of a mixed, multi-generational new community as a key driver of the Moray Growth Deal ambitions."

The exhibition will take place at Forres Town Hall between 2.30pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday, January 24.
