Moray Council gave the go-ahead this morning for the development, which will be on land running behind the village hall on Main Street.

Two of the ten new properties are classed as affordable housing.

The development will also include a small children's play area.

Objections to the plans had been received from 11 different parties living locally.

Their reasons included concern about safety at the road junction, as well as the impact the development will have on the character of the village.

However, councillors agreed unanimously to grant planning permission.

Speaking in support of the development, Marc Macrae (Fochbaers/Lhanbryde, Conservative) said: "There is a very great need for housing in the area."

The meeting was also told that Urquhart experiences very little traffic.

A recent council survey recorded a maximum of 25 vehicles per hour travelling along Main Road.
