Van flipped onto its side by car in Elgin

Police are appealing for witnesses after a van was left on its side following a crash in Elgin.

The crash happened at around 7.30pm on Monday at the roundabout in front of Dr Gray's.

PC Callum Hogg said: "A white Vauxhall Combo panel van was crossing the roundabout from A96 West Road onto South Street when a dark coloured vehicle – possibly a Vauxhall Mokka – collided with the side of the van causing it to flip onto its side.

"The Vauxhall thereafter left the scene along the A96 West Road, Elgin in the direction of Forres.

"If anyone witnessed the collision, has any information that could assist with our enquiries or has any Dashcam footage, please get in contact."

The police state that drivers are legally obliged to stop and give their name and address to anyone who reasonably requires it following an accident.

This is a legal duty on any driver involved where there is damage to property or where someone is injured.

If you cannot stop and report an accident, you are required at least to report the matter to the police as soon as reasonably practicable and in any case within 24 hours.

A conviction for failing to do so, could mean 5-10 penalty points, a possible ban and a fine of up to £5000.
