Firefighters tackle blaze at J. Smith Fish Merchants in Sandend

FIREFIGHTERS have spent Friday morning tackling a blaze at a fish merchants in Sandend.

Locals reported hearing an "explosion" before flames engulfed J. Smith Fish Merchants close to 6am.

Five fire appliances remained on the scene during the course of the morning, controlling the fire.

Just after 9.30am, a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.52am on Friday, December 24, to reports of a fire affecting a building in Seaview Road, Sandend.

“Operations control mobilised four fire engines and a water carrier to the location.

"Firefighters are extinguishing the fire and will remain at the scene until the area is made safe.

"There are no reports of casualties.”
