Gorse fire at Sunbank Quarry in Lossiemouth

A GORSE fire at Sunbank Quarry in Lossiemouth has been dealt with by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

A blaze was reported to the fire service shortly after 1.30pm today, with police confirming they were called to Halifax Road, behind the quarry, at 1.45pm.

Two fire appliances were on the scene, which was made safe within an hour.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.37pm on Tuesday, September 5, to reports of a fire in the open at Sunbank Quarry, Lossiemouth.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished an area of gorse well alight.

"Crews left at 2.30pm after ensuring the area was safe."
