Views sought on axing of phone boxes

THE public are being asked for their views on the proposed removal of 14 public payphones throughout Moray.

Moray Council has been invited to respond to BT with comments.

Organisations can "adopt" an older-style red payphone box for £1 – if adopted BT will remove the phone from within the box. Communities have imaginatively re-used red phone boxes as mini art galleries, tourist information stops, coffee stops, defibrillator points and mini libraries.

The phone boxes include: Grant Drive, Forres; Califer Road/Pilmuir Road, Forres; Victoria Street, Craigellachie; Covesea Road, Elgin; Linkwood Road, Elgin; Bruceland Road, Elgin; Fraser Avenue, Elgin; Fairisle Place, Lossiemouth; The Square, Fochabers; Auchenhalrig, Spey Bay; North Murrayfield, Fochabers; Farquahar St/Harbour St, Hopeman; outside Post Office, Cabrach; The Square, Tomintoul.

Residents can write to EH Admin, Moray Council, High Street, Elgin, IV30 1BX. Respondents should make clear the phone box they refer to, and all comments should be received by August 30.
