Folk will have the chance of a free look around more than 20 sites and landmarks across Moray next month.

Doors Open Day is taking place on Saturday, September 23.

On offer is a tour of the 40-acre Thorabella Farm near Dallas that's home to water buffalo.

Added to that is the chance to step inside the rarely-seen abbot’s house at the 13th century Kinloss Abbey.

Also among the sites allowing in the public for free are The Macallan Estate, Covesea Lighthouse, Forres Tolbooth, Gordon Castle Walled Garden and Elgin's Holy Trinity Church.

Meanwhile, over at the Braes of Glenlivet, there's the opportunity to view Scalan Seminary. Built in the guise of a farmhouse, it was used to secretly train priests when Catholicism was illegal.

Kathleen Robertson, the leader of Moray Council, hopes record numbers of people will explore the venues.

She said: "Doors Open Day offers locals the chance to be tourists on their own doorsteps and celebrate the stories that have shaped Moray.

"I see it as a chance to go behind closed doors and learn more about our history and heritage."
