Virginia Irvine-Fortescue, who lives at the bottom of the Cabrach, scooped the Gold Award in the category for her work volunteering for Grampian Hospital Radio.

Since 2013, Virginia has presented the Wednesday Request Show from 7pm until 9pm every week.

Virginia, who is also a trustee of the Cabrach Trust, said that she was ‘stunned’ upon hearing that she had won the award.

She said: “I was thrilled not just because it’s such an honour but also I’m thrilled for Grampian Hospital Radio because they are such a great volunteering team.

“What this is really celebrating is volunteering so the real honour is that I’m representing Grampian Hospital Radio.”

Virginia, whose voice was described by judges as being like Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley's, was also commended for being 'super professional'.

Neil Fraser, Chairman of Grampian Hospital Radio, added: “We were so delighted for Ginny and her well deserved Gold Award for Presenter of the Year.

“It goes to show that Grampian Hospital Radio is recognised nationally for the high quality broadcasting service we provide to the patients within our hospitals. Being shortlisted in 4 categories and winning the Gold is phenomenal.”
