AN ELGIN funeral director has created a guide on how to create a personalised funeral.

W.G. Catto has released the free guide, which is entitled I Didn't Know You Could Do That!

Drawing on generations of service and delivering unique funerals, W.G. Catto is sharing its expertise with real-life examples and ideas to inspire families or those planning their final send-off.

From horse-drawn hearses to sports-themed dress codes and decorations from an allotment, the guide shows what is possible when it comes to commemorating the loss of a life well lived.

The 'I Didn’t Know You Could Do That: Your Guide' was inspired by a recent survey conducted by parent company William Purves, which found that 19 per cent of responders would love a 'highly-personalised' funeral.

Interest in bespoke funeral services has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, where, in the absence of in-person services, families sought out different ways to make saying goodbye more meaningful.

Bob Proctor, Elgin-based manager of W.G. Catto, said: “Since our establishment, we have helped countless bereaved families say goodbye in a way that is meaningful and personal to them.

"We take pride in meeting with the family, asking them questions, and observing – it could be the Harleys parked in the front drive, the notes on the fridge or whisky collection that sparks an idea to make the service personal.

"However, we would like people to consider their own send-off and create their own bespoke celebration of a life lived which is why the guide has been produced.

"Unlike weddings that take months or years to plan, funerals are organised in a matter of days leaving less time to consider the options.

"We wanted therefore to make it as easy as possible for families to understand what is possible and perhaps take some of the strain out of creating a perfect send off for their family member.”

I Didn’t Know You Could Do That: Your Guide is available to view online or make an appointment with the Elgin based team to discuss your wishes.
