MOUNTAIN rescuers and a Coastguard crew were called to the aid of two walkers in distress on Ben Rinnes in stormy conditions at the weekend.

A woman was flown to hospital in the joint operation between police, Braemar Mountain Rescue Team (MRT), Aberdeen MRT and Coastguard helicopter Rescue 151.

The female walker was winched off the hillside in the darkness by the Coastguard helicopter. The second person was guided off the hill on foot.

Stuart Warrender, Aberdeen MRT team leader, confirmed the team had assisted with the evacuation.

He said: "One walker was flown to Raigmore Hospital, in Inverness, by Coastguard helicopter. The second was walked off the hill by team members."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police received a report of an injured woman on Ben Rinnes around 5.05pm on Saturday, February 8.

"Coastguard and Mountain Rescue were called and the woman was uplifted. She was conveyed to Raigmore Hospital."

No information was available on the woman's injuries.
