ONE of the two Walkers factories in Aberlour has closed after an outbreak of Covid-19 cases.

Factory SH2 has closed, with a total of 26 positive cases confirmed on the site.

In addition to this, 20 people have been instructed to self-isolate.

Added together with holidays, this has left nearly half of the factory's staff off.

A Walkers spokesperson said: "As a result of the first cases a few days ago, between our own decisions and Track and Trace intervention, a further 20 people were instructed to isolate.

"On top of these numbers, there were a further 40 people off this week on holiday.

"The total complement at this factory is circa 175 so the management took the decision to close for the week.

"Following further discussions yesterday with Track and Trace, we contacted all staff from the factory who we had told not to report to work this week and reminded them that they needed to isolate whilst away from work.

"We also told them that getting a test was recommended by authorities.

"All other factories, warehouses and despatch will be working as normal. The closure only affects the SH2 factory and the production and packing staff employed therein."
