BUCKIE RNLI lifeboat station laid out the welcome mat recently for two intrepid fundraisers who are walking round the coast of Britain.

After two and a half years of planning Anthony and Sally Brown set off from Bude RNLI lifeboat station in Cornwall on May 15 this year to walk the 6000 mile coastal route they mapped out during the Covid-19 lockdown in a bid to raise cash for the maritime search and rescue charity.

Following a clockwise route around mainland Britain, Anthony and Sally plan to visit as many lifeboat stations as they can along the way.

The couple aim to complete the walk by May 22 next year, the day before Sally’s 60th birthday, which will be a little over one year since they started out on their epic journey.

On December 11, just before midday, Buckie RNLI welcomed the pair into the station for a cup of tea, some mince pies and a much needed break, after they celebrated passing the 3500 mile point just outside the town.

Anthony said: "We came up with the idea of walking the 6000 miles of the mainland coastline to raise money for the RNLI after walking the 300 miles of Cornish coast in 2015 in aid of Cancer Research UK and Macmillian Cancer Support.

"We have always lived by the sea and although we have never needed the assistance of the RNLI ourselves, we are very grateful for the job they do and we wanted to give something back.

"Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLI’s help. As a charity, the RNLI depends entirely on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe."
