At a glittering award ceremony at the Banff Springs Hotel on Thursday evening, Sarah Will was named Primary Teacher of the Year.

Sarah, who works at New Elgin Primary School, is in her 19th year of teaching and has been a mainstream teacher until this past year where she has been working as an ASN (additional support needs) teacher.

She has also been acting as the school’s mentor to two probationer teachers and still finds the time to cover upper classes, take the school choir and look after the pupil council.

Her tireless dedication has now been recognised and Sarah took the time to express what it means to receive the honour after she collected the award on stage.

Sarah said: “This is just amazing. I have never seen a night like this before.

“Thank you to the family who nominated me, I was completely shocked, and thank you to everyone who is with me here tonight.

“It means so much that so many people have decided to vote for me for this award.

“I can't thank everybody enough.

“My motivation is my job, going in every single day and helping children and doing what I do.

'It's just a wonderful, wonderful profession and I would highly recommend it to anyone else out there.”
