The search is continuing for a Japanese macaque which escaped on Sunday from its enclosure at the Highland Wildlife Park near Aviemore.
The alarm was raised after the monkey was spotted in a Kincraig garden by local resident Carl Nagel.
A team from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland – who run the Highland Wildlife Park – was dispatched to search for the animal.
Park staff has been urging members of the public who spot the curious beast to get in touch to help them trace it.
"It was insane!" said Carl Nagel at Kincraig, as he caught the visitor on his camera. "Just to see this monkey trying to get into our bird feeder. It was amazing. Not the sort of thing you expect to see in your garden."
"It had come a fair wee way – and crossed that busy road," said Mr Nagel, "and fortunately was OK."
Darren McGarry, head of living collections at RZSS, “We can confirm one of our Japanese macaques escaped from its enclosure this morning. Our charity has set up a team who are working to secure the monkey safely and as quickly as possible.
“If members of the public encounter the macaque they should contact comms@rzss.org.uk with more information and do not approach it.”
The society is now in talks with a drone company to help in the search.
Highland Wildlife Park is home to a troop of Japanese macaques.
In 2022 it welcomed three new babies: Oops, Osaka and Omashu.
