Hollywood star Kevin McKidd's charity single has been released today to raise money for food banks.

Leave a Light On is performed by the Elgin-born actor and the team who recorded the highly successful Speyside Sessions album back in 2012.

Kevin said: "We had an uphill struggle to mix and produce this song with all the quarantine restrictions and everyone being apart. But they did it brilliantly.

"If ever there was a time that we need music, it’s now.

"I am very proud of the track and it has been a real honour to sing with Mairead and all of the old Speyside bunch again."

The Trainspotting and Grey's Anatomy star appears on Leave a Light On with Northern Irish singer Mairead Carlin.

The song was composed and produced by James D. Reid, and arranged and produced by Mairead’s husband Ronan Scolard.

It also features 13 other singers, who all sang their parts into their phones.

One had to wait until night to avoid seagulls joining in on the background.

The other singers also include Kevin's friend and fellow actor Iain Robertson who's a regular in River City.

Iain said: "I know so many people are really struggling just now and I hope that we raise plenty of money to make a difference.

"This project has also been a reminder that despite the apparent loneliness of isolation, there are ways to feel as close as ever and I take great hope from that."

The original Speyside Sessions album went to number one on the iTunes World Music Charts in six different countries: the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Germany and Spain.

All money raised from Leave a Light On will go to The Trussell Trust and Help Musicians UK
