WATCH: Scouting for Girls on “amazing” Moray audiences, their love of the “stunning” Highlands and their visit to the “rocks” of Elgin Castle
AHEAD of their Sunday headline show, Scouting for Girls shared their excitement to play for the “always amazing” Scottish audiences at MacMoray festival.
The English pop-rockers have a long history with the area, having performed at The Loft in Forres several times as part of their Highlands and Islands tours and said they were “really excited” to headline the festival.
The band also filmed the music video for their song “Millionaire” in Lossiemouth in 2013, which they performed during their show on Sunday. Reflecting on the video, singer and keyboard player Roy Stride said: “I was thinking the kids in that video probably have kids of their own now, it’s been a long time. Adding: “It’s good to take the song back home really.”
Although the group have had a long love affair with the area, they were not quite as smitten with the weather, or with their visit to the remains of Elgin Castle and Lady Hill monument that day.
Stride said: “I had a long walk round Elgin… actually it wasn't that long and saw the castle, I was a little bit unimpressed with the castle… more rocks than a castle, but I like the tower and I love the people, the people are really friendly.”
He added: “We love the highlands, it’s awesome to be back here. I think people love live music here, they love gigs and the audiences are always amazing and when you’re a live band the thing you feed off is a great audience.”
Guitarist Greg Churchouse added: “And a stunning backdrop.”
With drummer Peter Ellard joking: You were gonna say weather to start off with!”
Stride conceded: “Not the weather, but it is so beautiful coming here.”
