THE British Lung Foundation Scotland has welcomed a new campaign launched by the Scottish Government in partnership with Asda, to help those who want to stop smoking achieve their goal.

Help is at hand to quit smoking.

The campaign aims to make smokers aware of the support available, as well as how to access it.

It highlights the expense of a smoking habit by demonstrating that a 20-a-day smoker could feed a family of four for a week with the money saved.

Head of the British Lung Foundation for Scotland & Northern Ireland, Dr James Cant, said: "The start of a new year brings with it many opportunities. 2013 is a chance for all of us to improve our health. The single best way to do so, is to quit a smoking habit."

Of course that’s easier said than done, but nobody needs to go it alone. The NHS offers a range of services to support quitters every step of the way.

"I’m delighted that the Scottish Government and Asda have teamed up to take help straight to the heart of the community. The information provided and helpful items such as quit calendars and cost calculators really do make a difference," added Professor Cant.

More information is available on their website at www.blf.org.uk or helpline 03000 030 555.

Respiratory disease now affects one in five people in the UK.
