Bugs in Burghead are to have somewhere to rest their weary heads thanks to a Buckie trainee.

Pete Smith, who is one of the trainee team at Moray Reach Out (MRO) Recycling plant at March Road, Buckie, has created which is due to take pride of place at Burghead Station Yard Community Garden.

The project is a 'thank you' to the community of the village for their support over the last year, as MRO general and business development manager Shona Radojkovic, who lives in Burghead, explained.

"During the first lockdown, the Burghead community was tremendously supportive to Moray Reach Out.

"They collected a van full of items for our thrift shop in Buckie (which they continue to support) and aluminium drinks cans for our MRO Recycling. During the second lockdown, I've been partially furloughed, and have done a bit of volunteering at the Burghead Station Yard Community Garden and I realised that they had a rather sad looking bug hotel and thought it would be nice to give something back to the Burghead Community.

"I asked Jon Reeves, our MRO Spinning and Upcycling project manager, if it would be possible for the trainees to make a bug hotel for the gardens. Pete, one of our regular trainees, was delighted to do the honours.

"He has made a beautiful job and the item is ready for delivery. Moray Reach Out is inviting the local primary school and nursery children to furnish the hotel, which they have willingly accepted.

"We are delighted with the support of local communities throughout Moray, our community recycling bins for drinks cans are located in Buckie, Elgin, Lossiemouth and Burghead. Giving something back is always a pleasure, and hopefully we can do something similar to the planned new gardens in Buckie."
