The Burghead transmitting station at Clarkly Hill started service on October 12, 1936.

It has three masts in total.

The tallest is 506ft and is used to broadcast BBC Radio 4 on longwave (198 kHz).

Another is 504ft and transmits medium wave signals for both BBC Radio 5 Live (693 kHz) and BBC Radio Scotland (810 kHz).

The third and smallest mast is the backup antenna.
