The Mercat Cross in Lossie stands on an open patch of grassland overlooking the indoor sports and social club on Queen Lane.

Despite its name it's longer a cross, as the top has been lost over the many years since its creation,

The heritage association have put up a small information plaque which states that it was erected in 1764 by Elgin Town Council.

It adds: "Originally a religious symbol, it became the centre of parish community life – a focal point for markets, proclamations and public punishment."

There's scant information online about the cross, so if you know anything more about it, please get in touch.
