WHILE business owners in Elgin continue to work hard to remain successful despite the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, what better time to give them a boost with the annual Elgin BID business awards.

The awards have proved popular in recent years.

Supported by The Northern Scot, the awards have become a popular event in the local business calendar in recent years.

The public will again be asked to nominate their favourite businesses under a variety of different banners.

And one individual will be crowned the Elgin Community Champion.

The Elgin BID team said: "This is your chance to rally behind the city's heart and soul – its businesses. Let's unite and showcase the spirit of Elgin as we recognize those that make our city centre thrive."

There are 11 award categories in total.

In the David Urquhart new business award there are three in the running, with the public asked to vote. The nominees are Margo Fashion in Commerce Street, Nelly Bo's in the High Street and Toy Toon Elgin in the High Street.

There are five shortlisted for the Long Established Business award - Bijou Elgin, Batchen Street; Birnies Pet Shop, High Street; Grigor and Young, North Street; Northern Fish Restaurant, High Street; Sound and Vision, South Street.

In the following categories the public are being asked to nominate one business from each of the following sectors:

Retail - clothes, furniture, butchery, jewellery, music and flowers.

Finance, printing, professional and service sector (local businesses).

Finance, banking (national chains).

Hospitality and tourism - hotels and guest houses, restaurant, takeaways, cafés, entertainment and holidays).

Hair and beauty.

Health and social care - fitness, podiatry, dental, care providers.

Charity, community, church groups, education, support groups and clubs.

The Ian Widdowson customer service award is open to all staff members across all the categories.

In nominating someone, you must give clear and detailed examples of how they provided excellent customer service.

It's a similar story for the community champion award, with people urged to think of someone who goes above and beyond for Elgin.

You have until 3.00pm on Friday, September 15 to nominate and vote for your favourite businesses.

Forms are available from The Northern Scot office and from the Elgin BID office.
