Hazel Thomson sent in this photo of a Ringlet Butterfly settling on a willow herb flower.

.

The Ringlet gets its name from the small circles beneath its wings.

It has three eyespots on the underside of its forewings and five on its hindwings.

Occasionally though these are just small white spots which are not ringed at all.

Ringlets continue to fly in dull and cloudy conditions when most other butterflies are inactive.
