DO you have a thirst for knowledge? Look no further. Moray’s Dram Queen is back with an exciting opportunity to earn an industry recognised whisky qualification.

The Dram Queen, also known as Ann Miller, is the only approved course provider for the Edinburgh Whisky Academy (EWA) courses in Scotland, including the new certificate in sensory appreciation.

Based in Speyside, Ann has over 30 years industry experience, and now shares tailor-made Scotch whisky experiences and courses so that novices and experienced whisky consumers alike can enjoy her passion and expertise.

Her new course is created in conjunction with the celebrated whisky writer and chef, Martine Nouet, and consists of interactive workshops that focus on the sensory enjoyment and analysis of whisky and pairing it with food.

Ann will guide participants in exploring the origins of flavour in whisky and the maturation process. They will then be asked to test their aroma recognition ability and learn how to categorise different styles of whisky with seasonal foods.

Participants will discover how to judge and score whiskies in an unbiased manner using the new Edinburgh Whisky Academy method of sensory analysis. Their skills will then be put to the test at a blind tasting, where they will be asked to create a distinct flavour profile and food pairing suggestion.

Candidates will receive an EWA certificate and a lapel badge upon completion.

If you are a whisky lover and this sounds like a dream come true then head on down to Elgin Town Hall on Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2, where taster sessions are being held during the Spirit of Speyside:

Distilled event.

As well as appreciating Speyside’s best whisky distillers, and other drink and food producers under one roof, you will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win a free place on Ann’s course.

However, the Dram Queen offers plenty of other experiences that can be enjoyed either in her Dram Room in Speyside or anywhere else that is convenient.

Any bookings for this certificate as well as enquiries regarding Ann’s other courses and experiences should be made directly with the Dram Queen at annshirleymiller@gmail.com
