FIVE community groups in the Keith area have been boosted by a windfarm windfall.

The latest round of the Hill of Towie Community Benefit Fund has awarded more than £65,000 to the local organisations.

One of Keith's key organisations for young people, The Loft Youth Project, applied for funding to continue making connections with young people.

Sharon Duncan, project manager of the project, said: "We're absolutely delighted to receive this grant from the Hill of Towie Community Fund.

"This grant will allow us to continue to offer a safe environment and provide our young people in Keith and rural areas with a vast range of activities within their own community."

The Keith & District Sports Trust, Earthtime for All, Keith and District Men's Shed and Boharm Scottish Women's Institute (SWI) were also successful with their applications to support and restart their activities following Covid restrictions.

Elizabeth Harrop, secretary of Boharm SWI, said: "We were delighted to receive this grant from the Hill of Towie Community Fund. This will allow us to continue to meet when we are unable to fundraise as normal due to Covid."

The fund was set up in 2012 by RES, operator of the 21-turbine site near Drummuir, to support groups and projects that benefit Boharm, Botriphnie and Keith. Since then it has awarded grants totalling more than £825,000 to local groups, charities and social enterprises.

Callum Whiteford, community relations manager at RES, said: "We know how much these groups are valued locally so we're very happy that we can assist with their recovery and the restart of activities."

The deadline for applications for the next round of funding is May 3, 2022.
