TWELVE local heroes received well-earned recognition at the Moray and Banffshire Heroes Awards last night.
The event, organised by Highland News and Media and hosted by Nikki Marr, took place at the Mansefield Hotel in Elgin and saw hundreds of the area's bravest, most-enterprising and community-minded people honoured.
Introducing the event, Highland News and Media publishing director Steve Barron said: "Amongst us are the best of people, people who glue our communities together and come to our rescue in our hour of need.
"They do all of this in a quiet, unassuming way, with no fanfare. That's why we are here – to shine a spotlight on the best of people."
The night started with the renowned Spud the Piper paying as guests walked down a red carpet. Superheroes Stuart Smith (captain America), Aidan Wilson (batman) and Neil Mighten (Ironman) entertained the young ones.
After the first batch of award winners were announced, dinner was served and former X-Factor contestant Shereen Cutkelvin entertained the crowd.
The overall winner on the night was carer Lorraine Taylor, from Banff, who also won the Carer award.
