AN ELGIN gymnastics club has been kitted out with flash new leotards thanks to three separate donations.

Active Gymnastics purchased 25 new competition leotards, which can cost between £60-£70 each.

Head coach Tracy Sinclair said part of the club's ethos was to remain affordable for families and not allow kit costs to be a barrier to participation. Tracy added that there was a pressure in gymnastics competitions to "look the part" which can prove to be expensive.

As well as a generous Rotary Club donation, the local ASDA store topped up the club's raffle sales at a fundraising bingo ceilidh. A third cash gift came from Tracy's aunt, Cilla Tulloch, who requested donations towards the club rather than presents at her recent birthday party.

The club members have worn their smart new kit at one competition so far – and have another coming up this weekend in Inverness.

The committee now hopes to raise funds to buy new tracksuits for its members.

The club started out in 2011 as part of Active Schools with eight gymnasts. It now operates as a standalone club and has grown to 60 members.

It currently has a waiting list to join up, and meets on Mondays from 4-8pm, and Tuesdays from 5-7pm, at Elgin Town Hall.
