THE announcement that a local drag queen, Miss Lossie Mouth – aka local teacher John Summers-Campbell – will lead an interactive show at Elgin Library for children aged 0-6, has prompted a great response on our social media.

And after Moray MP Douglas Ross labelled the show as "totally inappropriate" for children of that age, the reaction from online readers increased.

Here is just a flavour of some of the responses at https://www.facebook.com/NorthernScot

Fiona Wilson – Very sad to see the bigotry and ignorance displayed by some people. Miss Lossie Mouth is a lovely person who will produce an age appropriate event demonstrating inclusion, kindness and acceptance.

Elaine Rowe – Here come the angry faces already. Get a grip people, you are the ones making something out of nothing. All these years we've had drag queens, panto, people dressing up at Halloween or fancy dress and no one bats an eyelid. Now drag queens, and trans individuals are being demonised by narrow minded bigots because of hate filled rhetoric being spewed all over social media and the news. The only disgusting behaviour I see is from those full of hate, who obviously have an issue with those different from them

Jayne MacDonald – I read some of the comments and it just goes to show what a narrow minded and bigoted community we really are. If ye dinna like it dinna go! Simple really!

Merina Hurd – Nothing wrong with not agreeing with it. Let kids be kids and leave all the “adult” stuff until they get older, when they can process and understand properly. Drag queens are and always have been ADULT entertainment. Yes fair dos if they leave all the sexual and inappropriate content out of it. No wonder kids don’t know who or what they are these days.

Paula Coy – The parents with genuine concerns don’t need to go. It’s not compulsory.

Angela Allen –As long as they are age appropriate I don’t see the issue.

Dale Fraser – Kids should be taught Adam and Eve like we have for generations. Not Adam and Steve.

Marilyn June Melville – Flamboyant men overdressed in a very sexual and provocative way is not suitable for young children. Why is all this being normalised anyway? What's the agenda?

Star Craib-Leete – It’s most likely going to be very pantomime levels. That’s how these things work. I’ve seen many of them on TikTok and not one has actually been inappropriate at all. As a trans woman, I feel Moray is very welcoming and accepting. I’ve only had a very few minor complaints/incidents of bigotry. Moray is a great place for us I think.

Annette Robertson – (On Douglas Ross) He’s an idiot, living in the dark ages!

Alan Bruce – Would children 6 years and under be even interested in gender recognition? Take them to pantomime!

Emma Donald – Just like going to a panto to see a dame.

David Blair – Has anyone had the heart to tell him (Douglas Ross) Jimmy Krankie wasn’t a loon?
