Aberdeen 3 Keith 2: Dons come from behind to beat Maroons

THIS was a bitter pill for Keith to swallow after they gave their all, only to lose out to a winning goal two minutes into stoppage time ending their Aberdeenshire Cup interest.
The Maroons had led by two early goals only for lightning to strike in the same place, in the shape of Aaron Reid who nabbed his second treble against Craig Ewen’s men in a matter of weeks.
The match was heading for a penalty shoot out when the big striker headed home the winner in the 92nd minute.
The match was played at Peterhead’s Balmoor Stadium and the Maroons, with Connor Killoh making his 50th appearance, were full of zest in the opening stages.
They took the lead in the third minute when on-loan striker Jake Stewart nabbed the ball off Dylan Lobban and fired home his first goal for the club with a fine low drive.
Craig Reid pulled off a fine save with his feet to deny Aaron Reid five minutes later.
Then in the 18th minute the Maroons doubled their lead after Michael Ironside’s superb lob rebounded off the top of the bar and the alert Gavin Elphinstone pounced to rifle home the loose ball for his sixth goal of the season.
Barely a minute later Aberdeen pulled one back when goalie Reid hit a clearance straight out to his namesake who promptly capitalised making no mistake. It was all square with 29 minutes on the clock, Reid crashing home a powerful 20-yarder.
Keith’s heads didn’t go down and in the second half James Brownie and Craig Gill were both thwarted, whilst Craig Reid denied Lobban and Adam Emslie with fine saves.
Then, with the game heading for a shootout, Elphinstone appeared to be fouled, but play was waved and Reid got on the end of a Brendan Hamilton left wing cross to head into the far corner.
It was surely a tough one to take as every man pulled their weight, looking solid in defence, creative in midfield and sharp in the firing line, and they couldn’t have done much more.
