Aberdeenshire Cup: Buckie Thistle and Aberdeen record dramatic 3-2 wins against Deveronvale and Keith
BOTH Buckie Thistle and Aberdeen came from 2-0 down in the first half to win 3-2 on a dramatic night in the Aberdeenshire Cup.
Keith were beating a strong young Aberdeen side 2-0 after half an hour, while Buckie were surprisingly trailing local rivals Deveronvale by the same scoreline.
But both Buckie and Aberdeen came back to win 3-2 with late goals to advance to the third round of the cup.
There was a different feel to the Fisherman's Derby between Deveronvale and Buckie Thistle as Longside FC's Davidson Park hosted the match.
Deveronvale's floodlights are still out of operation and the match couldn't be switched to Buckie's Victoria Park due to ongoing drainage issues there.
Vale's Jamie McLellan found his new surroundings easy to settle into – bagging a brace within the first 25 minutes as his side roared out of the blocks.
But the Jags slowly found their feet and halved the deficit before half-time through Max Barry.
Joe McCabe levelled the game shortly after the hour mark, before Lyall Keir nabbed a winner five minutes from time.
Meanwhile, down the road at Peterhead's Balmoor Stadium, a young Aberdeen side entertained Keith.
Again, the underdogs raced into a 2-0 lead as Jake Stewart and Gavin Elphinstone scored for the Maroons in the first 20 minutes.
A double from ex-Elgin City striker Aaron Reid levelled the game at 2-2 before half-time, and he finished his hat-trick in second-half stoppage time to knock a battling Keith out in brutal fashion.
Two further round two ties take place tonight as Fraserburgh host junior side Hermes and Inverurie Loco Works host Formartine United.
There are two more games in the Highland League tonight – Forres Mechanics are in Inverness to take on Clachnacuddin and bottom side Strathspey Thistle host Brora Rangers.
