BUCKIE Thistle suffered spot kick heartache in their bid to reach the Aberdeenshire Cup final.
Following Saturday's 1-0 win over an Aberdeen XI, Jags visited Pitmedden to take on Formartine United in the semis of the 2020-21 competition which wasn't completed because of the pandemic.
Neither side could find the net during the 90 minutes and after a marathon shootout it was the home team which progressed to the final.
Formartine will now play either Keith or Fraserburgh, who meet on Sunday.
Buckie had the bulk of chances with Sam Pugh and Sam Urquhart going close while Andy MacAskill forced a save out of Ewan Macdonald.
Kevin Main, playing in goal for Jags against the team he left earlier this year, had little to do with the visitors on top.
MacAskill headed off the bar and Shaun Wood fired wide as Buckie finished the first half on top.
Macdonald continued to keep Buckie at bay as the deadlock couldn't be broken and the dreaded penalty shoot-out prevailed.
Jonny Crawford hit the post for United and Buckie scored their kicks until Hamish Munro missed against his old team.
Successful conversions took the scoreline to sudden death and 6-6, when new signing Ryan Spink netted for Formartine and Buckie missed their eighth kick as Macdonald saved from Kevin Fraser.
