A VICTORY over bottom club Craigellachie has seen Aberlour Villa move top of the Moray Welfare League.

Villa leapfrogged Hopeman into top spot with a 5-2 win over Craigellachie, who remain pointless at the bottom of the table.

Meanwhile, two wins in a week has seen Fochabers move to within four points of the summit – although they have played a game more than the top two.

Craigellachie 0-5 FC Fochabers

FC Fochabers recorded a comfortable victory against bottom side Craigellachie on Friday night.

Fochabers had the best of the early chances and opened the scoring in the 16th minute when George Duncan a tapped in after a goalkeeping error.

Fochabers doubled their lead four minutes later when Sean Petrie played the ball across goal and John Gerrard finished.

Craigellachie had their best chance of the half on 23 minutes when a free kick was played in and Aaron O’Hara headed it back across goal but there was no takers.

It was 3-0 before the half hour as Nikki Soutar rose above everyone from a corner to nod in.

Craigellachie had a chance to pull one back in the 63rd minute when Reece McLean took on a couple of Fochabers and played the ball to Ewan Hills who pulled his effort wide.

Fochabers got a penalty with 10 minutes to play, with Craigellachie's Aaron O’Hara sent off too. However, the penalty was well saved by David Gilmore and the score remained 3-0.

There was time for more goals, though, and it was 4-0 when Warren Orford broke through the Craigellachie defence to finish cooly on 88 minutes.

Fochabers made it 5-0 in the last minute of normal time when a deflected shot fell nicely for Sean Petrie at the back post to finish.

Craigellachie 2-5 Aberlour Villa

Aberlour Villa moved top of the Moray Welfare League with a win over Craigellachie on Tuesday night.

Villa took the lead after seven minutes as a corner was swung in and ran through to the back post for Marc Winchester to tap in.

It didn’t take long for Villa to double their lead when, in the 12th minute, Jake Logan was fouled inside the box and David Blackhall converted the penalty.

Craigellachie halved Aberlour's lead after 21 minutes when Aaron Anderson swung in a free kick and, after Jordon Gray's shot was saved, Ewan Hills scored.

It was 4-1 to the visitors at half-time, though, as Jake Logan scored from a wide angle and, with the last play of the first half, Barry Grant cut in from the right to fire home.

Aberlour Villa made it 5-1 in the 57th minute when David Blackhall took and scored his second penalty of the game, despite the Craigellachie goalkeeper getting something on it.

Craigellachie got a goal back from a throw after a Villa player flicked a header into his own net.

The second half didn’t produce many chances after that, but David Blackhall must have thought he was going to get his hat-trick when he was through on goal after the Craigellachie goalkeeper misjudged the bounce of a long ball – but he put his effort just wide under good pressure from Craigellachie captain Aaron Anderson.

FC Fochabers 2-1 Cullen

FC Fochabers moved to within four points of the summit after a 2-1 win over Cullen on Tuesday.

Fochabers had a few early chances but failed to convert before Kieran Ingram gave them the lead after 25 minutes, nipping past the defender before slotting into the bottom corner.

Fochabers controlled most of first half and got a second on 40 minutes when Warren Orford broke the offside trap to slot home from close range.

It was a complete turnaround in second half as Cullen were the better side and scored through Kris Murray from a scrambled second ball from a corner.

The visitors almost got an equaliser at the death – hitting the bar before the goalkeeper saved rebound.
